Moving to Minnesota was the best thing we’ve ever done. We made a couple of observations right away. Minnesotans love their state and they place high value on its green space. How else can you explain the thousands of acres in this area of prime real estate set aside for parks of a superior quality? Minnesotans also love the outdoors, whether it’s the height of summer or the height of winter, they’re out there boating and skiing, swimming or snowshoeing. It’s very refreshing coming to a state that is ranked one of the country’s highest in amount of green space per capita from the state that has the dubious distinction of being 49th in the country, namely Illinois.

During highschool, I lived in Sweden for a year as a Rotary exchange student. Though difficult at the time, with the benefit of hindsight, I realize that is was again, a good decision. This experience attracted me to Minnesota, which has a strong Scandinavian heritage. It was interesting to note that the people in Minnesota were not all that different from Sweden. Very helpful, very friendly. They can be aloof, but once you get to know someone, you have a good friend. As a friend once told me, Wisconsin may be God’s country, but Minnesota is the promised land.
