SEO Never Ends
Chances are if you’re a self-representing artist, you’re doing it all. You are marketing, listing items, participating in forums and blogs, as well as creating your art. You perhaps have a blog to which you post regularly. You might have even created your own website. You’ve taken on an enormous number of tasks.
It seems with any fun profession that admin tasks take up a good chunk of your time. I remember being told the same thing when I entered into the natural resources field. It’s not all about being outside and doing bird counts. There’s a mountain of paperwork to do. Such is the case too with art. As much as we wish it were all about creating art, there’s that boring marketing stuff.
To be successful as a marketer requires that you stay engaged. Search engine optimization is constantly evolving. The playing field is a dynamic one. That’s the bad news. The good news though is that with planning, you can stay engaged. What it requires is discipline and a plan.
First, you need to know what is working for you. If you’re not already doing so, you want to track your leads. Add a field to your contact form on your blog or website, asking people how they found you. Then, track your results.
Second, look at the sources of your leads and what your ROI, or your return on investment is. If you find, for example, you get a higher number of leads after you post in a certain forum, devote more energy to this proven source. Likewise, if you’re spending hours on a social media site that isn’t paying off in sales, try to limit your time on the site.
Third, do an SEO audit regularly. Things change. You get new followers or friends, and some go elsewhere. Evaluate your performance and your efforts so you know where you energy is going.
To succeed, you have to be like that shark that keeps swimming. Your SEO plan must always move forward.
